In a decisive show of confidence from the men and women who protect Newport News every day, the Newport News chapter of the Virginia Police Benevolent Association (VAPBA)—The Voice of Law Enforcement Officers—has announced its endorsement of Commonwealth’s Attorney Howard E. Gwynn for Commonwealth’s Attorney.
The VAPBA is a membership-funded professional association. Its Newport News chapter’s endorsement underscores Gwynn’s 40-year record of fair and effective prosecution of criminal cases.
“Howard Gwynn has earned the trust and respect of our officers through decades of collaboration, integrity, and a deep understanding of the criminal justice system,” said Joe Woloszyn, President of the Virginia Police Benevolent Association. “His steady leadership and unwavering commitment to both public safety and justice make him the clear choice for Commonwealth’s Attorney. Our endorsement reflects our belief that he is the best candidate to continue serving the people of Newport News.”
Howard Gwynn was born and raised in Newport News. He and his wife Vickie raised their two daughters in Newport News. Over the last 40 years, Howard has tried some of the most complex criminal trials in the entire state and recently won a statewide award for his singular and unique contribution to the improvement of the criminal justice system in Virginia.
“For three decades I’ve worked shoulder-to-shoulder with the law enforcement professionals of the Newport News Police Department, who put their lives on the line for our community,” Gwynn said. “To earn the endorsement of their association is an honor and a responsibility I take to heart. Together we will continue pursuing strong and fair prosecution of violent offenders, alongside innovative programs that address the root causes of crime.”
The VAPBA endorsement follows a growing list of community leaders and organizations backing Gwynn’s re-election.
